Discover Camping Visitors,
We are emailing you today to advise of a new pilot project being launched through Discover Camping by BC Parks.
Opening some of our busier parks safely has been challenging during this time and we have been working on ways to increase access and provide safe outdoor opportunities. We’re pleased to advise that we are now implementing a new free day use pass for five popular parks and it’s launching on July 27, 2020.
This pass is similar to what is used by other park jurisdictions where visitor numbers must be actively managed. It will help to ensure a quality experience for visitors and protect the environment that makes these places special. Day-use passes will ensure that visitors have the space to practice physical distancing, while minimizing environmental impacts, and have an enjoyable visit during our busiest time of the year.
Day passes are being launched in the following six parks:
- Garibaldi Park (Diamondhead, Rubble Creek, and Cheakamus trailheads);
- Stawamus Chief Park (Chief Peaks Trail);
- Cypress Park (upper mountain trails including Howe Sound Crest Trail, Black Mountain Plateau trails, and Hollyburn Mountain trails;
- Mount Seymour Park (upper mountain trails including the Seymour Main Trail, Dog Mountain Trail, and the Mystery Lake Trail);
- Golden Ears Park (all trailheads and day use areas); and,
- Mount Robson Trail (Berg Lake Trail).
Day use passes for these parks cannot be booked in advance and will be available daily at 6:00AM each day on our Discover Camping reservation system. They are free of charge.
Day use visitors to these parks will need to have a copy of their pass with them during their visit. Passes can be either downloaded to a mobile device or printed.

This pilot project in intended to manage visitation in some of our higher use parks and will provide important data for possible future implementation of a day pass system. The rules and number of passes may need to be adjusted as the situation and health guidelines evolve. Some additional parks remain closed at this time while we work towards opening as much as we can safely do so.
We know that you love our provincial parks and we do too. We want everyone who visits to have a great experience so please be patient and understanding with one another. We are counting on everyone to do their part and follow health and safety guidelines, check signage posted around the park, and follow the direction of park staff on the ground so we can continue to keep the parks open for everyone to enjoy.
