March 13 – 15, 2025 | Smithers, BC

Cypress Ski Club was represented at the U14 Provincial by 12 athletes in Smithers, BC. The athletes flew out of Vancouver with coaches Robin Giroud-Lemaitre & Ferdinand Gros on Monday, March 10, trained on Tuesday and Wednesday, before competing Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They returned on Sunday, March 16, after a final training session on the beautiful “Cinderella” slope.

A big thank you to Jason Yang, who drove all the way from Vancouver to deliver the athletes skis on time — it was truly a huge help. The entire U14 group who attended is very grateful. We also want to thank our chaperone, Linlin, who took care of the athletes throughout the entire week and ensured they ate well every day.

These championships were a big success, highlighted by the first-ever gold-medal by a Cypress Ski Club skier at the U14 Provincial Championships. Jayden Cai won the slalom title on Thursday after an intense battle with Milo Sanchez from Prince George. Jayden secured the title with very strong second run, making him the BC slalom champion. In the giant slalom, Jayden placed second behind Whistler skier Olivier Courcel. Pritam Biln also had a notable finish, placing 14th in the womens slalom despite starting with a mid-pack bib in both runs.

Cypress Ski Club also performed well during the Team Event, a dual panel slalom. Team were mixed with athletes from other clubs across the province. Jayden Chung’s team finished first, Hayden Chu’s team finished second, and Jayden Cai’s team placed third.

Congratulations to the young athletes for an incredible week. The coaches are proud of the team’s commitment and determination to push themselves. Even if the results aren’t always there for everyone, the progress and effort shown are very encouraging — it’s important to keep working hard and never give up.

It was a great experience, and Smithers Ski Club’s excellent organization made the week in the North a memorable one.
