Cypress Ski Club was proud to host the U12–U14 Teck Coast Zone Finals this past weekend at Cypress Mountain Ski Area, welcoming athletes from across the Lower Mainland for two incredible days of racing, camaraderie, and celebration.
With 120 Top-10 awards earned and more than 100 volunteers supporting the event, the weekend was a true showcase of what makes our Coast Zone ski community so special.

A Bluebird Weekend to Remember
After a long season of training and racing, the Finals delivered classic spring conditions at their very best.
Clear blue skies, warm sunshine, and fast snow set the tone for the weekend. It was the kind of weather that reminds us why we love this sport—though it also meant sunscreen, sunglasses, and constant hydration were essential for athletes, coaches, and volunteers alike.
The energy on the hill reflected it. From the first inspection to the final racer, there was a buzz that carried through both days.

Two Days of Challenge and Growth
The event brought together U12 and U14 athletes to compete in a full weekend of slalom racing on Lower Fork–Panorama, with formats designed to match their stage of development.
Much like other Coast Zone races, the weekend wasn’t just about results—it was about learning how to race.
Athletes were challenged to adapt, reset between runs, and push their limits in a supportive environment. At this stage, performances can vary widely, and that’s exactly what makes it such an exciting age to watch. As we’ve seen time and again, this is where confidence builds, resilience takes shape, and a deeper understanding of the sport begins to form.
From the start gate to the finish line, we saw athletes stepping up—not just as competitors, but as teammates.

Podiums, Progress, and Proud Moments
Across both days, 120 Top-10 awards were given to U12 and U14 athletes, a reflection of both strong performances and the inclusive, celebratory nature of the event.
But beyond the results, it was the moments in between that stood out:
- Teammates cheering each other on at the finish
- Athletes bouncing back after tough runs
- Smiles, high-fives, and shared excitement across clubs
This is where sport becomes something bigger than competition.

Powered by Community
Hosting an event of this scale takes an incredible collective effort, and this weekend was no exception.
With 100+ volunteers contributing across course prep, timing, gates, hosting, and logistics, the event ran smoothly from start to finish. Their dedication created a safe, high-quality environment were athletes could focus on what matters—skiing their best.
As seen across Coast Zone events, it’s this shared commitment—from volunteers, coaches, and families—that keeps the energy high and the races running strong.
A big shoutout as well to our incredible Race Organizing Committee, whose efforts extended far beyond race day itself. From early planning meetings to on-hill execution and everything that followed, their commitment and attention to detail helped deliver a smooth, safe, and successful event for every athlete on course.
