In early March, the Cypress Ski Club proudly hosted the U14 Teck Coast Zone Slalom Race at Cypress Mountain, welcoming more than 100 U14 athletes from across the Coast Zone for two exciting days of racing. Clubs from Grouse Tyee, Mount Seymour, Whistler Mountain, Mt. Washington, and Sasquatch Mountain joined us on our home hill, creating a fantastic atmosphere of competition, teamwork, and community.
Coming off a strong showing at the BC Winter Games, our Cypress athletes were eager to race in front of a home crowd—and they delivered with determination and impressive results across both days.

Day 1 – Fog, Rain, and Resilience
Saturday’s race tested everyone’s grit. Heavy fog and persistent rain created challenging conditions on the slalom course, but athletes showed tremendous resilience, attacking the gates with focus and determination. Despite the weather, Cypress racers put together an excellent day with seven top-10 finishes.
Leading the charge for the women was Aletheia Yuen, who skied a strong and confident run to finish 3rd overall. Teammates Alexa Mohr (6th), Emily Gao (7th), and Erya Yan (8th) added depth to the results, demonstrating the strength of the Cypress women’s squad.
On the men’s side, Jasper Cai led the Cypress charge with a 6th place finish, followed closely by Nicolas Rosell (8th) and Liam Wrigglesworth (9th). Their solid performances in difficult conditions reflected the athletes’ technical preparation and positive attitude.
Through the fog and rain, the energy from volunteers, coaches, and spectators helped keep spirits high and the race running smoothly.

Day 2 – Bluebird Racing
Sunday brought a dramatic change in weather. With clear blue skies and sunshine over Cypress Mountain, athletes returned for another full day of slalom racing in much more enjoyable conditions.
The improved visibility made for fast, confident skiing, and Cypress athletes continued to shine with six additional top-10 finishes.
Once again, Aletheia Yuen delivered an outstanding performance, claiming 3rd place overall for the second day in a row. Teammates Erya Yan (6th) and Emily Gao (8th) also secured top-10 results for the Cypress women.
The highlight of the men’s race came from Jasper Cai, who skied aggressively and cleanly to earn an impressive 3rd place finish. Liam Wrigglesworth (9th) and Nicolas Rosell (10th) rounded out another strong showing for the Cypress men’s team.
Congratulations to all Cypress athletes who competed and represented their club so well throughout the weekend.

Thank You to Our Volunteers
Hosting an event of this size takes an incredible amount of coordination, and this race was a true reflection of the strength of our Coast Zone ski community.
We extend a huge thank you to Cypress Mountain for their partnership and support in preparing the venue and ensuring the race ran smoothly throughout the weekend.
Equally important were the many volunteers and parents who dedicated their time—whether working on course, helping with timing, organizing logistics, or cheering on athletes. Events like this simply would not be possible without your commitment.
Another huge thank you to our Race Organizing Committee of volunteers, whose work began long before race day and continued well after the last athlete crossed the finish line. From planning and preparation to race operations and post-event wrap-up, their dedication ensured the event ran smoothly and safely for all athletes.
