Good results and eye opening races at Sun Peaks

Our U16 team, under the expert coaching of Gavin Preziosi and Hayden Sidey-Phillips attended races at Sun Peaks. These races gather skiers from all clubs in the Province, as part of the new calendar devised for this age group. Also, U18, U12 and Senior racers can participate, creating a strong and competitive event for the younger ones.

Our club is certainly gathering momentum.  In Gavin’s words “racer commented that they want to keep working hard to get better” That is the right attitude.

Cypress also was present on the podium. Peter Konigsmann was 4th and 3d in the slaloms, signalling the comeback of Cypress as a club that is on the right track. Way to go Peter!! Mike Reid had the best result in his career, finishing 11th on Saturday slalom. Matthew Kuzek has certainly come a long way from where he started two seasons ago. Olin Wakkary and Kavi Gandhi are in their first year of U16, and are adjusting their skiing to a much more demanding competition environment. Mariya Fedoroff, Emma Johanessen and Adrienne Pop left Sun Peaks determined to work hard in order to ski faster.

Sun Peaks camp: Good skiing and freezing temperatures

photo 4

The camp held at Sun Peaks was quite an experience. Our team of chaperones, composed by Liisa Wagner, Andrea Scott, Joel Emery and Morten Johanessen pulled off an impressive performance on their first trip as such. Hearty meals and good atmosphere were present. A big thank you to them. Without their help the camp would not have happened.

Our camp kicked start the season, with attendance of U12, U14 and U16 racers sharing hill space and meals.  It was great to see everybody also braving the cold weather. It was -27 out there, freezing cold!!

Skiing was good, snow was crisp and we enjoyed technical free skiing and gate training. Head Coaches, Mark Anderson (U12), Andrzej Lawnik (U14) and Gavin Preziosi (U16) provided guidance and sound advice.

Congrats to all racers that attended.

WAY TO GO CYPRESS SKI  CLUB!!
